Fundraising:
Kids
for Wish Kids
Participating in a Kids for Wish Kids project is a benefit not only to the
wish children, but also to the students who create and execute a fundraising
plan. Along the way, students (nursery school - grade 12) experience the
joy of giving, the importance of philanthropy, as well as develop leadership
skills, build self-esteem, and work together toward a common goal while
making a wish come true.
Here
are some ideas for Kids for Wish Kids projects:
- Teacher baby picture contests
- Guess the weight of the principal
- Bake sales
- Holiday parties
- Crazy hat days
- Walk-a-thons
- Craft sales
- Dance marathons
- Penny Drives
- Hat Day
Some
schools that participated in Kids for Wish Kids this year include:
- Carle Place High School - Super Dance
- New Hyde Park Memorial High School - Sale of "I make wishes come true"
clouds
- Schreiber High School - Blue & White Night
- McKenna Elementary School - Spaghetti Dinner Night
- Connolly School - Walkathon
Collegiate
Wishmakers
Collegiate Wishmakers are college students who donate their time to Make-A-Wish
Foundation of Metro New York by organizing fund raisers on their campuses
and assisting in the wish-granting process. Becoming a Collegiate Wishmaker
sounds rewarding and guess what? - IT IS! Your time and effort will benefit
both you and our special children. We are ready to support your project
with ideas, materials, banners, give-aways, and guest speakers.
Here
are some ideas for activities that work:
- Talent contests
- Walk-a-thons
- Fashion shows
- Ball games (faculty vs. students)
- Host a Movie Night
Common
Cents Program
Every year students of all ages in New York City public schools from all
boroughs collect pennies with the goal of filling at least 25 sacks with
30 pounds of pennies each. Schools who meet the goal have the opportunity
to participate on a Philanthropy Roundtable where students decide how to
allocate approximately $1000 in the form of grants to charitable organizations.
